Open Access Policy

Open Access Policy

Effective: January 2018 · Research Floor

Research Floor is a diamond open-access publisher. All articles published in our journals are immediately and permanently available online, free of charge, to any reader worldwide. There are no subscription fees, pay-per-view charges, or registration barriers.

Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY): All content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. This allows anyone to share, adapt, and build upon the work for any purpose, provided proper attribution is given to the original authors and source.

Why Open Access?

Research Floor was founded on the belief that scientific progress depends on the free exchange of ideas. Open access removes barriers to knowledge, enabling researchers, educators, clinicians, and the public to read, cite, and reuse the latest findings without financial or legal obstacles.

Key benefits of our open-access model include:

  • Global reach: Research reaches audiences in developing countries and institutions with limited library budgets.
  • Increased visibility: Open-access articles are read and cited more frequently than paywalled content.
  • Compliance: Many funding agencies and institutions mandate open-access publication — Research Floor meets these requirements.
  • Public engagement: Citizens, patients, and policymakers can access the evidence they need.

Copyright & Author Rights

Authors retain copyright of their work under the CC BY license. This means:

  • Authors grant Research Floor a non-exclusive right to publish and distribute the work.
  • Authors may republish, archive, or share their articles on personal websites, institutional repositories, or preprint servers at any time.
  • Third parties are permitted to use, remix, and build upon the work, provided they cite the original authors and the journal.

No Article Processing Charges (APCs)

Research Floor does not charge authors or institutions for submission, peer review, or publication. Our diamond open-access model is sustained through institutional support, grants, and volunteer contributions from the academic community.

We believe that charging authors (APCs) creates an inequitable barrier to publication. By eliminating these fees, we ensure that researchers from all economic backgrounds can contribute to the global scientific record.

Self-Archiving Policy

Authors may deposit the final published PDF or the accepted version of their manuscript in:

  • Institutional repositories (e.g., university digital archives).
  • Disciplinary repositories (e.g., arXiv, bioRxiv, PubMed Central).
  • Personal websites or social media (e.g., ResearchGate, Academia.edu).

We encourage immediate deposit and require that the full citation (journal, volume, page, DOI) is included.

Data Availability & Transparency

Research Floor promotes open data practices. Authors are encouraged (and sometimes required) to:

  • Deposit raw data, code, and materials in public repositories (e.g., Zenodo, Dryad, GitHub).
  • Provide a Data Availability Statement in the manuscript.
  • Share protocols and methodologies in full detail.

Commitment: Research Floor is a signatory of the Budapest Open Access Initiative and the Plan S principles (where applicable). We work continuously to remove barriers and foster a truly open scientific ecosystem.
